Report of breast and cervical cancer screening camp conducted at Hadripura, Bashettyhalli on 28.09.2024
This camp was conducted with funding from Allegion India Private limited, in collaboration with R.K Foundation and Cancer care India.
The focus of this camp was on breast and cervical cancer screening. The camp was organized at Hadripura village, Bashetty halli. Originally the camp was set to be organized at a Government school- GHPS Hadripura. As it was a Saturday, the school had planned to close for half a day and the camp was planned without interfering the school activities.
But the school had received an order that tests must be conducted to students over the day and thus the school had to be open for the day. Given this, our camp had to be shifted. After discussion with the team from Milk federation of Hadripura, who agreed to give their office space to conduct the camp.
Camp details:
- A total of 51 women attended the camp.
- Average age of women who attended the camp was 52 years. Youngest among the 51 women who attended the camp was 21 years and oldest was 80 years.
- 8 women of 51 were found to have high blood pressure. Of them 4 women aged 34, 48, 54 and 74 years had grade 2 high blood pressure. Of them 2 were already on treatment and two others were referred to the local PHC for rechecking blood pressure and initiate treatment. The other 4, aged 50, 65 and 80 years had grade 1 high blood pressure. Of them one was already on medication and the rest also were referred to the PHC for rechecking blood pressure and initiate treatment.
Breast cancer screening:
32 women underwent breast cancer screening, using Niramai technology using thermalytix. Thermalytix, is a computer aided diagnostic engine that is powered by Artificial Intelligence and breast thermal scan. Niramai early stage breast cancer screening solution is a non-contact, non-invasive, portable, safe, automated solution that works for women of all ages.
- At our camp 32 women underwent breast cancer screening with Niramai. Of them, 12 women will require follow up.
- Of them, 6 women’s reports suggests that they must undergo sono mammogram for confirmation of changes in the breast.
- 6 Women’s report suggested that they have thermal patterns that indicated low level of concern. Monthly self-breast examination and annual screening with thermalytix is recommended.
Cervical cancer screening:
- Of the 51 women who attended the camp, 26 women underwent pap test. Pap test is highly recommended early screening test for cervical cancer. This detects early changes in the cells 10 years before the onset of cancer and can support early diagnosis and treatment.
- Of the 26 women, reports of 6 women indicated inflammation. This was due to menopause and hormonal changes. These women will be treated with medication for treatment of inflammation and hormonal cream will be prescribed for long term use. The other report of 20 women did not indicate any inflammation or early evidence of cancerous changes
Other cases:
- 2 elderly women reported prolapsed uterus. As they had completed childbearing they have been asked to visit PHC for referral to higher facility for possible hysterectomy.
- One woman reported a mass coming down between her legs, after undergoing hysterectomy 2 years ago. On examination we found that this elderly woman had descend of urinary bladder after hysterectomy. She was also referred to a higher facility to explore treatment options such as surgery or a pessary.
- 5 women reported discharge and have been treated.
